Memorial Day Weekend 2013

Memorial Day weekend was one of the best yet. Friday night, Jessie and I went out to The Ranch Saloon for our friend Kristen's going away hurrah. We have never line danced and did not poses any skill for it at all.  I found it to be a more respectful and fun atmosphere. People go there to dance and enjoy it. It was nice. However, when Jessie and I wanted to dance, we couldn't because we knew no steps. We will try salsa another time hopefully soon. We went a few times in college and was able to pull that off more. All that to say, we saw Kristen who got a job in Arizona in ministry there. I couldn't be happier for her in this new venture in her life. Jessie and I knew her from APU and lived across from each other in the Engstrom dorms. She has always been a very sweet, kind, loving, caring girl. She is passionate about people and Jesus.

I think the last time I attempted the use of a curling iron was 7 months ago for Tommy's wedding. I ended up looking more like a Southern Bell.
For me, this is big hair.
Jackie joined us!
You can read about her here: Beauty from Ashes.
Jessie and a cowboy dance. She is at the far left.
Saturday, Caleb and I attended the Journey Church Picnic. He was needy and grumpy most of the time. He finally went into the bounce house and had some fun. He also refused to eat most of the time. Later, after his nap, we picked up Jessie (her car is broken down) and went on a beautiful walk in Fullerton. After that, we went home to my house to watch Game of Thrones after Caleb went to bed.
Sunday, Caleb and I went to church in the morning. We went for a little walk after church, and ended up taking Jessie home after his nap. After dropping Jess off, we drove back to Fullerton to Amy's house and spent the rest of the day there. We ate lots of food, played at the park, and went for a little walk.
Amy's new "baby kitty" Luminitza. I'll call her Lumi.
Meeting Lumi.
Eating an apple while sitting for a moment during our stroll with Amy.
On our way home that evening, we swung by to pick Jessie up again. After Caleb went to bed, we watched more Game of Thrones and went to bed. We had a big day planned for Monday! We embarked on our first LA Adventure!!! Jessie and I love LA, and we were excited to take him.

First we went to the La Brea Tar Pits. Then we wandered into the Page Museum.

He loved that Saber-tooth Tiger.
Then we went to LACMA to see an incredible exhibit called Metropolis.
According to the LACMA website:
Chris Burden's Metropolis II is an intense kinetic sculpture, modeled after a fast paced, frenetic modern city. Steel beams form an eclectic grid interwoven with an elaborate system of 18 roadways, including one six lane freeway, and HO scale train tracks. Miniature cars speed through the city at 240 scale miles per hour; every hour, the equivalent of approximately 100,000 cars circulate through the dense network of buildings. According to Burden, "The noise, the continuous flow of the trains, and the speeding toy cars produce in the viewer the stress of living in a dynamic, active and bustling 21st century city.
Honestly, I am not sure if Caleb liked it or not. He watched it for awhile, but kept saying that the car's wouldn't stop. "It's not stopping!" It didn't sound too positive.
After this, we left for lunch at Olvera St. At this point, we were all running on low energy and were hungry.
Caleb's first time at Olvera Street!
Caleb said, "Mommy, I'm out of energy. That's why I need a drink." Can't say I blame the guy.

Whew! So that's all. That was our weekend.
Hope you had a good one too!
